Latest research report: Plastic particles pose a threat to the survival of marine organisms
Publisher: Published:2013/12/11
England Exeter and Plymouth University researchers in the " Current Biology " magazine have published a report on the impact of plastic waste on marine life . Although research perspective is different, but both come to the same conclusion , namely marine plastic particles on the survival of marine worms pose a serious threat.
Dr. Stephanie Wright Institute of Biological Sciences at Exeter University in England published its latest report said that once the marine sediments contain a large number of plastic particles , marine worms ( such as hallux sand , sea worms , etc. ) edible food will a significant reduction , which would seriously hamper their intake of energy .
Plymouth University researchers Mark Anthony Browne said that ocean plastic waste ( even if it is a small plastic particles ) contain many toxic and hazardous substances, such as hydrocarbons , antibacterial agents, flame retardants , etc., they will cause the health of marine worms great harm.
"Our study reports deal with the problem of plastic waste in the ocean sounded the alarm . Relevant departments should take measures as soon as possible to reduce the number of plastic trash in the ocean . Thereby maximizing the prevention of plastic particles produced submarine ." Biology, University of Exeter Professor Tamara Galloway said.
Quality lightweight plastic , is an excellent raw material . The birth of plastic to people's lives and production have brought great convenience. However, if people ignore the ocean plastic waste , the pollution will continue to expand the scope , extent and will continue to deepen and eventually lead to the demise of marine organisms . Therefore , in order to protect the marine environment , marine life rescue the brink of extinction , the introduction of better regulatory plastic garbage is imminent . |
